Can a single person use her voice to represent many? Tout Seul dans la Forêt en Plein Jour, Avez-Vous Peur? (Alone in the Forest in the Middle of the Day are You Scared?), Tout Seul for short, is the new record by WOELV, a musical project that consists of sole member– visual artist Geneviève Castrée. Born Québécoise, Genevieve is an accomplished illustrator searching for further means of expression for the often traumatic world that surrounds us. Genevieve taught herself guitar in 2000 in order to write songs that could accompany her drawings.
The LP includes a 60-page book of illustrations that exists to better understand the stories that melodically expressed in the music. This entire record is sung in the French language. A listener who does not speak French should benefit from reading the translations of the lyrics included in the book, this method is greatly recommended by the author.
